Power. Who has it?

This is what we asked our Power Poll Memphis members in a recent survey.

We present their choices to you.

It's an extraordinary ranking, grounded in the accumulated wisdom, experience and awareness of Power Poll members who responded to the survey.

Power lists are cranked out regularly by various and numerous publications. They generally are products of a handful of editors or reporters. This survey reflects the opinions of nearly 150 Power Poll members who registered 5,067 ranked choices.

No Power list is perfect. Neither is this one. It's not a scientifically valid survey. If more members had participated, the results would have been different.

We believe our initial Power Poll rankings are an accurate reflection of who has power in Memphis. And who better to say than those who have it?

During this process, many of you nominated new Power Poll members. As we continue to build our membership, we hope you will nominate others. We want our membership, and future Power rankings, to be as representative of the entire community as possible.

Before you start reading, a heads-up:

• We've published the names of all vote-getters below, along with their ranks.
• In the event of a tie, a member shares a ranking with the person they are tied with.
• If you want to find a person’s ranking quickly, enter the name in the search bar at the top of the list below. Last names alone work.
• 147 Power Poll Memphis Members took part in this survey. The average number of votes per participant was 34.
